Obituary of Ralph Tompkins

Ralph Tompkins, 81, of Port St. Johns, FL., passed away on February 4, 2013. He was born on September 7, 1931 to Thomas B. and Elizabeth Russ Tompkins of Georgetown, SC. After high school, Mr. Tompkins joined the South Carolina National Guard. After serving in the guard he joined the United States Air Force and served in the Korean Conflict. After returning from Korea he was then stationed at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida. When NASA was formed he went to work as a Logistics Management Specialist and worked at the JFK Space Center for almost 50 years. He was a member of Aerospace Pioneers and was a Master Mason of Canaveral Lodge #339 of Cocoa Beach, FL. He is survived by his wife, Edith Tompkins of Port St. Johns; a daughter, Patricia Powell of PA; a sister Betty Ray of Georgetown, SC; four brothers, Cecil Tompkins of Conway, SC, Thomas Tompkins, Jr. of Palm Bay, FL., Hassie Tompkins of Georgetown, SC and Danny Thompkins of Cutlers Bay, FL.; and a number of nieces and nephews that adored him. He was predeceased by his mother and father; and a brother Louis Tompkins of Mt. Pleasant, NC. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, February 9, 2013 in the Hucksfield Cemetery, Highway 261-Carvers Bay. Graham Funeral Home of Georgetown is in charge of the arrangements.
