Obituary of Dick Young

Jessie Boyd "Dick" Young, 70, husband of Elaine Elliott Young, died Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Tidelands Hospice House of Georgetown, after a lengthy illness. He passed peacefully, with his family by his side. Mr. Young was born in the Yauhannah Section of Georgetown County, and attended Winyah High School (Class of 1959). He served in the Georgetown Unit of the National Guard from 1960 – 1969. Mr. Young worked for the City of Georgetown Light Dept & Hilliard Electric Company – before starting Young Electrical Service, which he owned & operated for many years, until health issues forced his retirement. Mr. Young is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elaine Elliott Young, who cared for him & remained by his side until the end; a son, Mark Edward Young, of the Socastee area of Myrtle Beach; a daughter, Melissa Elaine Young Barfield & her fiancé Tommy Graham of Conway; two grandsons, Randy Akers and Brandon Barfield both of Conway; a sister, Eunice Young Kennedy and her husband Heyward from the Plantersville Section of Georgetown, a brother, Joe Young and his wife Cynthia of Florence; and number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Young was predeceased by his parents, S.J. & Louise Harrelson Young, brothers S.J. Young, Jr., Jackson "Jack" D. Young and Ben Frank Young; and a sister, Rebecca Young Stalvey. Funeral Services will be held at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, in Yauhannah at 3 PM on Monday, February 13, 2012 with the Rev. Ronald Ward of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and the Rev. Wayne Ellis of New Hope Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM Monday at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Tidelands Community Hospice, 2591 N. Fraser St, Georgetown, SC 29440, or to Mt. Tabor Church, 18504 N.
