Obituary of Doris Joyner Jeffcoat

Doris (Dot) Elizabeth Joyner Jeffcoat, 91, Georgetown, S.C. died suddenly July 26, 2014.
Remembered as a devoted wife and mother; Christian leader and worker; teacher and mentor; encourager and prayer warrior; loyal friend and relentless caregiver, much of Dot’s life centered around the ministries and people of First Baptist Church, Georgetown. She loved her church, where she faithfully served in many leadership positions since moving to Georgetown in 1961. Her consistently-practiced faith was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Born June 23, 1923 in Columbia, S.C., she was the daughter of Milton U. Joyner and Lonnie Mae Collum Joyner.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alex Hoyt Jeffcoat; daughter, Cynthia R. Jeffcoat; and brother, Milford M. Joyner.
She is survived by four sons and their wives, whom she considered daughters: Robert (Bob) and Elaine Jeffcoat, Durham, NC; Mark and Barbara Jeffcoat, Lexington, SC; Jonathan (Jon) and Marilyn Jeffcoat, Orlando, FL; and David and Kathy Jeffcoat, Seneca, SC. Also, grandchildren: Karen Jeffcoat Hudson (Chad), Lisa Jeffcoat, James Jeffcoat (Kristin), Stephen Jeffcoat, Timothy Jeffcoat, and Jonathan Jeffcoat; five great grandchildren: Jesse, Colin and Zeke Hudson; and Alex and Zack Jeffcoat; brother, Jack P. Joyner, Cullman, AL; and special neighbors whom she loved like family: Carlton and Betty Bourne; their children, Charlie Bourne and Sarah Ellen Bourne; and Wayne Shoemake.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 30, First Baptist Church, Georgetown. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home, Georgetown.
Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Columbia, 3:30 p.m., Wednesday. The family will receive Columbia area friends after the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the building fund of First Baptist Church, 219 Cleland St., Georgetown, SC, 29440; or Tidelands Community Hospice, 2591 N. Fraser St., Georgetown, SC, 29440.
The family expresses appreciation to her church family and community friends for the love and care extended to “Miss Dot” in recent years.
