Obituary of Iva Griffith Atkinson

Iva L. Griffith Atkinson, 81, widow of Rev. Bussie Howard Atkinson, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at her home.
Born on September 21, 1932, in Shady Springs, WV, she was a daughter of the late Carry Griffith and the late Iva Trail Griffith. Mrs. Atkinson was a member of Georgetown Pentecostal Holiness Church and enjoyed spending time with her loving family. Ministry was a big part of Mrs. Atkinson’s life and in her younger years she served the Lord by teaching His word and continued her ministry as a nurse anesthetist having retired from Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include two sisters, Jeanette Matiks (Mankin) of Crab Orchard, WV and Anita Rufus of Raleigh, NC; a special brother in law, Douglas R. Byrge of Georgetown; two nephews, Robert Jolly of Shady Springs, WV and Timothy Byrge of Georgetown; four nieces, Rosetta Wiseman of Raleigh, NC, Teresa Paschal Bellue, Tamela J. Byrge and Trina B. Johnson all of Georgetown; and numerous other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Curtis M. Griffith; and five sisters, Theda Shirkey, Irma Wesley, Ina Byrge, Wilma Braden and Loraine Savage.
A graveside service will be held at 5 PM Saturday, August 16, 2014 in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens with Rev. Clyde Glover officiating.
