Wallace R. Cottingham passed from this life Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at MUSC. Mr. Cottingham was born November 10, 1924, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Mitchell Carodine Cottingham and Mary Lee Cole Cottingham Boyd. Mr. Cottingham was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the Africa Middle East Theater. He later served in the S.C. National Guard. He was the owner of Cottingham’s Shoe Store in Georgetown for 35 years and retired in 1986. He had served as president of the Georgetown City Health Board, was a former member of the Myrtle Beach Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, charter member of VFW Post 6444, and charter member of the Loyal Order of Moose. Surviving are two sons, Ted W. Cottingham of Greer and Kevin M. Cottingham and wife Angela of Myrtle Beach, and grandchildren Christopher Devin and Nicole Lorraine Cottingham also of Myrtle Beach. He is also survived by two sister, Margaret B. Smith and husband Fritz of Kingstree and Marilyn B. Summers and husband Tom of Columbia; three brothers, Mitchell C. Cottingham of Manning, Ralph Elton Cottingham and wife Dora of Sumter, and Dr. Walter C. Cottingham and wife Beth of Kingstree; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Doris Carolyn Campbell Cottingham; sisters, Doris Lee C. McCants and Juanita C. Gordon; and brothers, J.D. Cottingham and Samuel Francis Cottingham. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 4pm at Graham Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 3pm-4pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.grahamfuneralhome.org.
