Obituary of Leafy D. Rexrode

Leafy Dale Rexrode, 102, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at her home in Georgetown. Born an only child in Grant County, WV on August 30, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Harrison Bennett and Provie Cosner of Petersburg. Ms. Rexrode lived in Petersburg, WV and Alexandria, Virginia prior to moving to Georgetown, SC with her late husband, Virgil Rexrode over 40 years ago. During that time, she served as a mid-wife and while living in Alexandria hosted a weekly radio show singing live gospel music with her family. Mrs. Rexrode has always counted her five children as her biggest blessings. All who knew her would agree that her joyful disposition, selflessness, and lifelong history of giving good advice were among her best attributes. She was a wonderful cook and everyone enjoyed her quick wit and sense of humor. Survivors include three daughters, Shirley (Sonny) Sessions, Sharon (Eddie) Elliott, and Donna (Isaac) Jones, all of Georgetown; two sons, Junior (Nancy) Shook of Petersburg, WV and Tommy (Miriam) Rexrode of Alexandria, Virginia; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one great grandson, Justin Jordan. A funeral service will be held Sunday, April 10, 2016 at 3pm at Graham Funeral Home.
