Obituary of Jesse Thurston Johnson

Jesse Thurston Johnson, 67, husband of Wanda Cooper Johnson, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017 at Bon Secours-St. Francis Xavier Hospital.
A memorial service, officiated by Reverend Steve Candal, will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 3 pm at Johnson Chapel Baptist Church on Johnson Road in Georgetown. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall of the church.
Born in Georgetown County on February 12, 1950, he was a son of Miriam Idona Owens Johnson Lee and the late Herman Deleon Johnson.
He was a graduate of Winyah High School, and Horry-Marion-Georgetown Technical Education Center where he studied Industrial Electronics. He also attended Nielsen Electronic Institute in Charleston, and served in the South Carolina National Guard. He retired after working 35 years as an electrician in the Woodyard and Valve Shop at International Paper in Georgetown.
Mr. Johnson was a member of Johnson Chapel and enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching Gunsmoke reruns and NASCAR, and had a deep appreciation for classic cars and motorcycles. He was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his grandchildren and always enjoyed visiting with extended family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 44 years are one daughter, Kelly Johnson Owen (Matt) of Charleston; one son, Jamie Thurston Johnson (Stella Michelle) of Georgetown; three grandchildren, James Hunter Johnson, Cash Cooper Johnson, and Hawkins Reid Johnson; one sister, Donna Johnson Bunn (Howard) of Georgetown; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his brother; Deleon David Johnson.
