Obituary of Pierre Jacques Maitre

Pierre Jacques Maitre, 79, husband of Monique Julienne Lagae Maitre, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at NCH Healthcare in Garden City, South Carolina.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 11AM at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.

Born in Algeria on December 11, 1938, he was a son of the late Leon Maitre and Anne Marie Sy Maitre.  Mr. Maitre was a devoted member of Precious Blood of Christ where he volunteered at Father Pat’s Kitchen and participated in the Carmelite Prayer Group.  He was a veteran of the French Army and a retired software consultant.  His greatest joy outside of church was spending time with his beloved family.  He was most fulfilled taking care of his wife, children and grandchildren. Every day, he and his wife Monique walked on the beach at sunset; it was their little piece of “heaven on earth”.  Mr. Maitre was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather who dedicated his life to serving others and giving endlessly of himself to his family.  He will be dearly missed.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 56 years are three sons, Philippe Maitre of Delaware, Patrick Maitre (Wendy) of Salt Lake City, Andre Maitre (Oxana) of Pennsylvania; two daughters, Chantal Combs (Frank) of Murrells Inlet, Michelle Steffen (Scott) of Pawleys Island; ten grandchildren, Heather and Ashley Combs of Murrells Inlet, Julienne, Liam, Sean, and Colin Steffen of Pawleys Island, Aleksei and Sofia Maitre of Pennsylvania, Sam and Leo Maitre of Salt Lake City; a sister, Elisabeth Vila of France; and two brothers Alain Maitre and Bernard Maitre of France.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Jean, Jacques, Francois.

In lieu of flowers, memorials made be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at 4550 Montgomery Avenue, Suite 1100 N, Bethesda, MD 20814.
