Obituary of Erich P. Gertig

Erich Paul Gertig, 60, passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at his home.

Born in White Plains, New York on December 31, 1957, he was a son of the late Roy Fred Gertig and Bertha Marie Starkey Gertig.  

Erich grew up in Brewster, NY, where his friends affectionately referred to him as Captain, before moving to South Carolina. He moved to South Carolina in 2012 to help care for his parents. He was a retired Verizon lineman and a veteran of the United States Navy. Erich lived an adventure-filled life focused on having fun and making others laugh. He enjoyed reminiscing about the good times and sharing stories with others, including the time he brought the kids to pet a tiger and feed a baby lion from a bottle. Although Erich is no longer with us, his stories and memories will continue to put smiles on the faces of those who knew him.

Erich is survived by his three children, Erich, Scott, and Amy, his brother, Roy (Linda "KT"), and two nephews, Steven and Christopher. 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his aunt, Jean Starkey Fitzsimmons, and cousin, Maureen Fitzsimmons.
