Obituary of Reed Leroy Hammond, Jr.

Please share a memory of Reed to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mr. Reed Leroy Hammond, Jr., 73, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

A celebration of life will be noon Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Buzz’s Roost Restaurant, 911 Front Street in Georgetown.

Born May 21, 1945 in Flint Michigan, Mr. Hammond joined the United States Navy after graduating high school.  He spent four years traveling the world in service and defense of the country that he loved so much.  Mr. Hammond was very proud of his service in the Navy and would wear his USS Essex hat everywhere he went.  Eventually, he settled down and made his home in Georgetown.  Mr. Hammond worked several different construction and maintenance jobs in the local area before his retirement.  More recently, he could be found traveling throughout Georgetown on his trusty scooter, decked out with deer antlers on the front and an American flag flying from the rear.  Mr. Hammond never met a stranger and would stop and talk with everyone he met during his daily ride around town.

Surviving Mr. Hammond are a special “adopted” daughter and caretaker, Nicole McKenzie and her husband Dannice, and their children Carson, Cayden, and Kristen, all of Georgetown.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VFW Memorial Wall at Georgetown County Veterans Memorial, 718 Church Street, Georgetown, SC 29440.

Online Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grahamfuneralhome.org.  Arrangements by Graham Funeral Home (843) 527-4419.
