Daniel Charles Jernigan, Sr., 89, husband of Edith Bodie Jernigan, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020 at his home.
Born in Horry County on January 23, 1931, he was a son of the late Doctor Copland Jernigan and the late Gertrude Shelley Jernigan. Mr. Jernigan was a former Deacon of Screven Baptist Church. He was a Scout Master of Troop 395 and recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. Mr. Jernigan was a member of the Moose Lodge. He took part in the Georgetown Woodcarving Association and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Mr. Jernigan moved to the Tom Yawkey Wildlife Center in 1964 and retired from the Department of Natural Resources in 1995. He was a member of First Baptist Church and attended the Archie Hanna Sunday School Class.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two children, Daniel Charles Jernigan “Danny” Jr. and Alma J. Owens (Roger); three grandchildren, Lauren Owens Ray (Cody) of Andrews, Alexander John Jernigan of Las Vegas, Meredith Lynn Owens of Georgetown; two great grandchildren, Addison Elizabeth Blake and Anzley Ray; one sister, Lorene Shelley Fowler of Galivants Ferry; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight siblings, Austin Shelley, Ruby Shelley, Franklin Shelley, L.D. Shelley, Robert Jernigan, Thomas Jernigan, Vera Woodbury, Minnie Shelley Hardee.
Due to concerns with Covid-19, funeral services will be private.
