Obituary of Annie Laura Maybank

Miss Annie Laura Maybank, 81, passed away quietly on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at National Health Center (NHC) nursing facility in Garden City, South Carolina. Miss Maybank was born in Georgetown, South Carolina on April 23, 1939. She was a daughter of the late Abraham Lincoln Maybank and Louvinia Point-Maybank. She was one of twelve children. Annie joined Wesley Methodist Episcopal Church in Georgetown, South Carolina at a very early age. She graduated from Howard High School in Georgetown, South Carolina in 1957. After high school she moved to Bronx, New York to live with her older sister, Evelyn and her husband, David. She immediately became a member of Christ Church in the Bronx. She was a very active member there and would always encourage the young people to continue their education. Later, she continued to further her education at Monroe School of Business where she received an Associate Degree in Bookkeeping and graduated with honors. She was an asset to her community. Over the years, she served as vice president of the Tenant's Association and became a liaison of the Police Department. Annie was low-keyed and did not speak about her accomplishments; but she was a recipient of many awards. She would frequently go out of her way to help people in need. Annie worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for the Ujma Song Production Company in Bronx, New York until her early retirement due to illness. She had to return back to her home in Georgetown, South Carolina to live with her sister, Frances and brother-in-law, Edward. Annie and Frances shared almost seven years of good times before Annie had to go into NHC nursing facility. Her survivors who will forever cherish her memories are: a sister, Mary E. Maybank of New York City, N.Y.; a brother, Lincoln Maybank of Hackensack, N.J.; and her dedicated sister/caregiver, Frances Maybank-Grant (Edward) of Georgetown, S.C.; a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins; extended family members; and the class of 1957. Special thanks to First Baptist Church of Georgetown, S.C.: the pastor, the ministerial staff, and the missionaries who visited with Annie each week with a Gift of Joy. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
