Dear Mrs. Beard, Sandy and Beard Family, I was shocked and saddened to read the news of Bro Dan,and to read further, Phil's... just five months prior. He and Phil were part of a group of guys(Gilliam,Taylor,Fields, Phil,Dan, Denson and myself) that rotated from each other's home to establish and pour into each other's lives. It was through Bro Dan that I came to know, Bev Carmo, and took several of her English courses. How often had I thought of he and Phil over the years and sorry that our distance(I went off to OSU, in Columbus, Ohio) dispersed our camaraderie. I was 19-20 yrs old, enthralled, while at the same time,intimidated by being a part of the group of guys. Last evening, I was looking for something in a few storage boxes, and found a Xmas card Bro Dan had given me. I googled his name and came upon this news... You all are in my thoughts. Dan was a good friend and spiritual big brother to me. I always enjoyed discussing spiritual matters with Dan and we both strived to build each other up in our Christian walk. Dan loved telling jokes and also was quick with one liners. One time he walked into church with a bandage on his face. The Pastor asked Dan what had happened. Dan replied, “she said shut up and I thought she said stand up”. This one still makes me laugh. Dan did not spare himself with humor and his self deprecating style of humor usually came out in every conversation. I will remember Dan as someone sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit, striving to hear from God,, a student of scripture, always optimistic about the future, always appreciative and an encourager of others, and a man of Godly wisdom. Dan had a stubborn streak in a positive sense and he would not be deterred in his calling to serve the body of Christ, and this was to our benefit.

Dan and Barb sat behind us in church. Many times the pastor would say something funny. It would tickle Dan's funny bone and he would laugh. When Dan laughed, it made me smile. Sometimes I would call their house to talk to Barb. Dan usually answered the phone. It would make my day if I could make him laugh. But as much as Dan had a great sense of humor, he also had a seriously beautiful love for his Lord. He loved the Lord with all of his heart, his soul, his mind, and his strength. Reminding me of the patriarchs of old, Dan was faithful to the Lord Jesus to the end. He fought the good fight, and he has now finished the race. (2 Timothy 4:7,8) I am so thankful to have known Dan Beard.
