Obituary of Gladys Shokes Correll

Gladys Shokes Correll, 69, wife of Lanny D. Correll, Sr., passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital. A memorial service, officiated by Dr. Ted Sherrill, will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Georgetown at 11AM. Mrs. Correll was born in Georgetown, SC on November 16, 1952 to the late James William Shokes and the late Dorothy Hardee Shokes. She was a graduate of Winyah High School in 1971 and The University of South Carolina’s Pharmacy School in 1977. She began her pharmacist career at Taylor Street Pharmacy in Columbia, SC, and eventually working for Eckerd Drugs in Columbia and on the coast until her retirement in 2003. Once she and Lanny retired to Pawleys Island, she assisted Lanny at Dr. Golf until their complete retirement. Gladys was an immaculate homemaker and decorator. She enjoyed cooking, crafting, gardening, plants and flowers, reading and researching. She loved Bible studies and digging deep into God’s Word. She was always trying new things and encouraging others to do the same. Gladys was very stylish and loved fashion and style and shopping for it, not just for herself but for others as well. Don't ask for her honest opinion if you weren't prepared to hear it, but if you didn't take her advice, she never took offense. Gladys never met a stranger and once she was your friend, she was your friend forever. Her smile would light the room, and if you were in a bad mood when she visited or called, you would not be there for long. Her shining personality made the world brighter. She was a behind the scenes “doer” and never wanted the applause or credit. She was always, always taking care of someone or some detail. Her love for life, laughter and friends was only exceeded by her love for Lanny, her precious fur child Bogey, her children, grandchildren, and her family. Mrs. Correll is survived by her husband of 28 years, two daughters, Morgan Ann Davis of Greenville, SC, Leslie Correll Lowe and her spouse Terry of Florence, SC; one son, Lanny Correll, Jr. and his spouse Jill of Richmond, VA; three grandchildren, Jackson and Madeline Lowe and Cullen Correll; one brother, Ronald Shokes and his spouse Linda of Newton, NC; two nephews, Brad Shokes and his spouse Karen of Hickory, NC and Jake Shokes and his spouse Wendy of Summerville, NC; one aunt, Vivian Richburg and her spouse Oscar of Georgetown, SC.
